My role in EPOCA arctic

I am overseeing work looking at how bacteria in the sea will respond to ocean acidification. To do this I will isolate their DNA and see how this is changing over time due to exposure.

My thoughts about the trip

Unfortunately I won’t actually be able to go to Svalbard this time, but I am really excited about the project and receiving the data, which I will analyse back at PML. It is a fantastic opportunity for excellent science and international collaborations.

More about my research

I am a molecular ecologist, which is a fancy term for someone who uses DNA to find out about organisms. Many bacteria look the same under a microscope and so the only way to tell them apart is to examine their DNA, look at their blueprint, then we can see who is who and what they do.
